Description

The #1 reason why we strength train is to reduce the risk of injury in our sport. We can’t eliminate injuries completely, but we owe it to our athletes to reduce the amount and risk of injury. Taking that notion a step further and applying to the most delicate area of the football player, the head, neck and spine, should be a priority give them a chance to train that area. There are an estimated 1.6-3.8 million sports- and recreation-related concussions occur in the United States each year. During 2001-2005, children and youth ages 5-18 years accounted for 2.4 million sports-related emergency department (ED) visits annually, of which 6% (135,000) involved a concussion. 5-10% of all athletes will experience a concussion in any given sport season.
For every one pound of strength increased in the neck, the odds of getting a concussion drop 5%.
This is HUGE…we can illicit that adaptation strengthening the neck area with year round training and reduce our athletes chance of concussions…and just make them safer overall.
